Week 1 - Day 5 - Activity 3

Hi!

In case you still don't know what the Summer Learning Journey is here is an explanation. The SLJ is a learning thing that helps you in the holidays to prevent the summer slide. The summer slide is something that means we lose lots of our learning in the holidays when we can prevent most of that by doing 3 blog posts a day for 4 weeks not including weekends. That means there are 60 blog posts that we can do to help us. Best of all this is a competition so each blog has a certain amount of points. So at the end of the holidays our points are added up and we get prizes.

Here is what I have to do today.

For this activity, please choose one person (a changemaker) and read all about them.
On your blog, provide us with:
  1. The name of the person
  2. A description of the work they do/have done
  3. An explanation of how they/their work has had an impact on the lives of others

Here is my work that I found out.

WOW! What an amazing achievement.
She was only 14-16 there were no exact answers.
Do you think you could achieve something like that?
What is your greatest achievement?
Comment what you think and your answers.
Until next time...
Bye!

Week 1 - Day 5 - Activity 2

Hi!

In case you still don't know what the Summer Learning Journey is here is an explanation. The SLJ is a learning thing that helps you in the holidays to prevent the summer slide. So at the end of the holidays our points are added up and we get prizes.

Here is what we have to do.

For this activity, listen to the podcast of Yusra Mardini, or read her story on her personal website.
On your blog, retell the story of this amazing young woman from Syria.

Here is my changed version of the story.
My aim is to make it similar but not copy the writing.

Yusra Mardini and her older sister were caught in the Syrian war. To save themselves they boarded a full little boat and set out for Europe to hopefully find a safer home. Around 15 minutes later the engine died out. Since Yusra is a professional swimmer she was determined to not let anyone drown. Yusra and her sister had gotten into the water with two other people and swam fro about 3 and a half hours to make sure the boat didn't flip. Around a year later her work was noticed and she became a member of the refugee olympic team to represent so many people. Since then things have gone smoothly for Yusra.

That was it.
I know that it doesn't look interesting as you are scrolling
by but it is a really interesting story of someone.
Here is a link to the site where the story was: LINK
Comment some feedback on how I could improve.
Do you know about anything like this?
Until next time...

Here is what I have to do today.

For this activity, we would like to learn more about the things that are important to you.
On your blog, please share three things that you treasure and say why they are treasures to you

Now I decided to show this on a biteable.
Here it is.

Week 1 - Day 5 - Activity 1 on Biteable.

That was the biteable.
I hope you liked it.
What would your three treasures be?
Are any of them the same as mine?
Comment your answer and feel free to give feedback.
Until next time...

So at the end of the holidays our points are added up and we get prizes.

Here is what I have to do now.

For this activity, imagine that you were asked to create a travel brochure for Tonga (or a country that is important to you). On the brochure, include lots of great tips about what to see and do in the country.
On your blog, post your finished copy of your brochure.

Now here is my brochure.

Imagine that the line in the middle means that there is a crease where you fold it.
That is the brochure.
I know it is simple, but I think it still looks good.
Would you come here?
If not where would you go?
Comment your answer and opinion and I will probably reply.
Until next time...

I think that this activity was the easiest but took lots of thinking for me.
Here is what we had to do.

For this activity, imagine that you were allowed to change your name to anything that you wanted.
On your blog, tell us what you would change your name to and why you would choose that name.

I think I would keep my last name the same though.
Here is what I would choose.

That's the name I would choose and my explanation.
I tried making the O in Clover a four leaf clover but it doesn't look amazing.
What name would you choose?
Comment the name you would choose.
Until next time...

me to do because they are talking about equality.
Here is what we have to do.

For this activity, watch these videos about Serena and Venus Williams.
On your blog, tell us three things that you learned from watching these videos, as well as one thing you would still like to know.

So after I watched the videos I made this.
Here is my work.

That was my work.

On your blog, present your ideas as a poster or infographic.

I chose to ask Jorja, here is my work.

That was my work.
I hope you liked it.
What's your dream job?
How could someone else help you with that?

For this activity, we would like you to imagine that you had the chance to interview LeBron James, Steven Adams or another basketball player of your choice.
On your blog, tell us who you would interview and then provide a list of five questions that you would like to ask your chosen player.
I chose Steven Adams, here is my work.

That was my biteable.
I hope you liked it.

On your blog, please list the three superpowers, tell us why you have chosen each one, and tell us what you are going to do with them.
Here is my work...

For this activity, we would like to hear about a time when you, or someone you know, was brave like Sully.
On your blog, recount a time when you (or someone else you know) did something brave.

That was what we had to do.
So here is my recount.

That was it.
I know it isn't super brave but I can't think of anything
that I have done or someone else I know has done.
I could of written about some plane trips that
were scary but I didn't do anything brave in them.
What's a time where you had to be brave?
Comment your story if you have one.

For this activity, let’s imagine that you were Neil Armstrong.
On your blog, write a short poem describing how you felt when you first set foot on the moon. Here is a link to some different poetry forms.
I chose to do a haiku that means 5 syllables at the first line 7 in the middle and 5 at the end, here is my poem...

That was my poem.
I know it is simple but it is a Haiku after all.
What would you write as your poem?
What is your favourite style poem?

Comment your answers and maybe an idea of
what my next blog should include.

Until next time...

Called Flying solo.
Here is what we have to do.

For this activity, compare and contrast these two aviators. You could use this venn diagram.
On your blog, share your comparison between the two women and be sure to include at least three similarities and three differences between these two aviators.

I chose to use the diagram but change it a bit.
Here is my work about Amelia Earhart and Jean Batten.

That was my work.
I think that even though its simple.
It still looks cool.
What achievements have you done alone?
Comment your answer as well as what

MEGA AIR!!!

Hi!
Yesterday was our end of year assembly.
So after that the year 6-8s set off on a walk
to Mega Air to celebrate the leavers.
We arrived and watched a quick video of the rules so we could be safe.
Then....
PIZZA ARRIVED.
Once we ate that, we were on the trampolines.
Everyone was bouncing everywhere.
I bounced around then tried the pit.
I managed to survive then went to the dodgeball area.
I had the best strategy.
Not moving.
It worked, I only got hit one time!!
Then after a bit more bouncing I made both the teachers take a leap into the pit.
I made a slide of all the photos.
Here is the slide...

Those were the photos.
As you can tell we all had lots of fun.
We were all very tired by the time we had to leave.
I think that my favourite part would of been
all the ledges that you can bounce up to.
That was my first time going to Mega Air and I think
that it was lots of fun and I would definitely go again.
Until next time...
Bye!

Day 4 - Activity 1

Hi!
Today Emma from the Summer Learning Journey came in to explain that we
can do a practice blog out of the teaser week activities.
So everyone in the class did one today.
Firstly we had to make a folder for all our SLJ work in.
Next we looked at the activities and chose our one.
I chose to do the activity where we are principal for a week.
What we have to do is think of 5 things that we want to do.
I decided to show this on a google drawing.
I hope you enjoy it.
Here it is...

That was my work.
I hope you liked it.
I will explain More now.
For more time for art its because we don't do it often.
I chose the second one since the school pool is always cold.
Class pets because they are fun and teach responsibility.
Creative trips are like things you wouldn't expect to happen as a trip.

For the fifth one I chose that because the more
things we do we get new experiences from.

That's all for today.
Until next time...
Bye!

Words or Numbers?

Hi!
This week for my home work blog I chose
to do the number word search activity.
I was confused what that was at the start
but then I searched it and found out what it is.
For those that don't know, it is a word search
but instead of looking for words you look for numbers.
Here is what we have to do...

That's what we had to do.
So I took that and here is what I made...

That's about as big as I can make the picture.
Comment how I could fix this to make it
better and how many of the words you found.
Once I finished I forgot where most of the words are.
This was really fun to make but I need you to test it.
Until next time...
Bye!

The End...

Hi!
This week I have finished my novel study.
As part of it I have to post my finished work on my blog.
For novel study I chose the book...
Act of Faith.
It is a story about a girl in the 1640s.
You go with her through a challenging
time until she is safe again.
I found this book really interesting
since I don't usually read books like it.
At first glance I thought it would be a
diary but when you look inside it isn't.
I tried my hardest to make the second part as
creative as possible but it was hard thinking of different things.
So here is the slide...

That was all the work.
It is a very long slide.
But I think I achieved the work that the teachers set for me.
I didn't find this work really hard after the first couple of chapters.
Feel free to comment if you have done a novel study or if you are doing one.
This isn't my favourite book but it still is a good book.

My favourite part would of been the letter at the
start of the book that talks one on one to the reader.

It makes you want to see what the story is about.
Until next time...
Bye!

STAMPEDE!!!

Hi!
As you know last week on Friday it was pet day.
After we had our flower arrangements done we look at the
hobby horse races and a small show that Bridget performed with her horse in.
Then we did lots of fun games in our house groups.
But as soon as the last break began, the stampede came.
Animals were flooding through the gates.
Leaving people frozen from how cute they are.
But soon after the kids were in control.
My dog Maggie was ready for the obstacle
course and was excited to show off her sitting.
The obstacle course started with your dog
having to sit, then go over a ramp, then over a log,
then over another ramp, round the barrel then do it again.
Maggie could only manage the sitting and barrel part.
But she did it in style.
Here are some photos of Maggie before her turn...

Those were the photos.
I didn't have many.
But there is at least one good photo of Maggie.
After she did her tricks we left to see the sand saucers.
It turns out the Nikita and I got SECOND!!!

I had left Jedi in charge of the dog but when I
came back, Maggie was taking Jedi for a walk.

After that it was home time for everyone.

Feel free to comment what you think about my blog
and don't forget to comment if you see the thief.

Until next time...

Snow, snow and more snow

Hi!
Welcome to my week 6 home learning blog post.
I made a poster then put my voice over it.
Hopefully the video works but if not just look at the poster.
Here is the video...

That was the video.
I hope it work.
But here is the poster...

That was my work.
I hope you liked it.
Feel free to comment what you think
and if the video worked or not.

I really hope this weather report
is correct because I want snow.

Do you like snow?
Until next time...

The jungle...

Hi!
Today is...
PET DAY!!!
So far this morning all we have done is make
our sand saucers or vegetable sculptures.
I decided to do a sand saucer with Nikita.
Together we worked together and made our creation: The Jungle.
I didn't originally plan to do it with Nikita but I did do it with her.
But yesterday we made a slide of our inspiration.
Here is my slide that I made...

We used my flowers and Nikitas jungle items and together we made our final product...

We had lots of fun making it and soon we will be taking it to be judged.

Feel free to comment your opinion about our sand saucer
or what you would do for a sand saucer or vegetable sculpture.

This was so much fun to make and the whole class
was excited to make their own things this morning.

Wish us luck.
Until next time...

Isabella VS Fra clement

Hi!

This week for my blog I chose to share some of my
Novel study work that I am in the middle of doing.

I am in the middle of doing the main Protagonist and the main Antagonist.
Protagonist: Hero/good character.
Antagonist: Villain/bad character.
Now you know what I am doing and what I'm in the middle of.
Here is my work...

Clearly Isabella is the good character.

I have made the pictures but I
don't know what to use to finish it.

Isabella took a long time to make.

Even though it may not look like it
there is lots of detail in her dress and face.

Isabella is the main character and even though
according to the law in the 1640s
Isabella is bad and Fra clement is
good, everyone knows that Isabella
 is actually the good character.

Feel free to comment on how this work could
be improved so I can fix it
before the deadline next week.

Until next time...

What way do we go?

Hi!
This term for Te reo we have been working on directions.
Today we had to blog what we have learnt and our main 4 words.
I decided to do something different and
instead of a plain slide explaining, I chose a pick a path.
All you have to do is go onto slide two and pick one of the three
options and it will take you to either a correct
slide or a go back to the start slide.
If it says go back to the start click that,
but if it says next question click that.
This is a slide pick a path so you have to follow
the links to have the best experience of this game.
Here is the game...

That was the game.
I hope you had fun playing it.
I had fun making it.

Comment how many times it took you to
get them all correct and get to the last slide.

Have you made a pick a path before?
To learn these we made our own treasure maps and
went around telling people the directions in maori
then we would try to understand theirs.
This was interesting to learn.
Now that you have played the game, here are the directions...

I hope you didn't cheat.
Until next time...

The Future...

Hi!
Last week: (Week 5) Was so busy that I didn't
have time to do my home learning blog.
But now here it is, Just a bit late on the weekend.
I chose to do this activity...

So I started thinking of the rooms when I
came across a slide Grace and I have made before.
I decided that the slide was already what
I would want my future house to be.
Since it was Grace and I that designed it a
while ago all I had to do was label it.
Here it it...

That was what we want our house to look like.
If you also see this on Graces blog that is why.

Feel free to comment what you think and
what you would like your house to look like.

Would your house be a mansion or a tiny house?
It could be anything!
Until next time...

YMS takes over the town!!!!!

Hi!
This week is a very short week.
That is because today we had the YMS trip to town,
tomorrow we have a class trip to the
A&P show then on Friday there is no school.
So firstly we arrived at school as normal doing what we would usually do in the morning.
Then we jumped on the bus to go to town.
I sat down with Grace and the bus began the journey.
Before we knew it we were at the town hall sitting in our seats.
The Orchestra played lots of songs and even taught us how to conduct the orchestra.
I think that the conductor looked a bit like Harry Potter
as an adult and that was fitting since later they
played a Harry Potter themed music piece.
We learnt about instruments then we were done.

We all walked down to the Margaret Mahy Playground and ate our lunch.
We ran into the playground and played on everything.
There was also another school so the playground was full.
Then it was time to board the bus and go home.
Altogether it was 4 buses for the whole school.
We all had lots of fun and we are happy with our day.
That was a lot of talking so now I will show you some photos...

That was the pictures that we had.
I hope I explained it all enough.

Comment on how I could make this better, whether it is
less words or more detail I will try to fix it for next week's blog.

Lots of schools went to the orchestra so the town hall was completely full.
Was your class or school there?
Until next time...

A web of a story...

Hi!

This week for another blog I chose to
show my novel studies story web.

I think it looks good and matches the rest
of my theme colors and how I have laid it out.

I think it matches the example story web with the titles.
Here is the example story web...

For those that don't know, a story web is sort of
like a poster with the title and author in the
middle and lots of information around it.
So you can find out what the story's themes are
or how many important characters there are.
This story web didn't take super long but it still
looks good and I think I have a good
amount of information in each category.
Apart from point of view since there was only
one view which was the main character Isabella.
The story is called Act of Faith by Kelly Gardiner.
Here is my story web...

That was my story web.
I hope you liked it.

I posted it for feedback so please comment
how I could improve this part of my work.

It could be that I change the
decoration or add more information.

Have your read Act of Faith?
Until next time...

Storyboard that... Is mysterious? No. Is hard? No...

Hi!
This week for my blog post I chose
the find a new website blog post.
This is what I have to do...

I have been looking around
at blogs and found a website.
It is called: Storyboard that.
I don't have many photos since it is really easy.
Here is a slide with more some photos.

That was the slide.
Now for the finished product...

That was the site that I found.
I hope you liked it and will try this site.

It is really easy to use and there is
lots of instructions so you can learn.

Feel free to try and comment your
opinion on this site and what your thoughts are.

Until next time...

A.... GHOST!!!!!

Hi!
This term we have chosen a new book.
It is called Ghost...

That's the front cover of the book.

So far I am really enjoying the book so I decided to show
you part of the work that we have been doing for the book.

Firstly there is my first impressions...

Then the first lot of questions about the start of the book.

I had to go back and answer some of these
questions later on since we haven't read enough.

I hope that gives you a bit of a better idea about the book.
Here is one of the fun activities that we did...

Lastly I will show some of the new words we had to do work for...

We have only had three sessions so far so I don't have much to show.
This was just the first session and second session of work.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my work.

Feel free to comment on how I could improve my
future ghost work that I will do next Monday.

Thank you for reading my blog.
Until next time...

Athletics Day!

Hi!
This Wednesday was...
ATHLETICS DAY!!!!
I couldn't do High jump or Sprints that
I explained in the slide but I did the rest.
I found shot put the most challenging since
we had to throw 7 meters to go to zones.
My favourite must of been long jump but
I landed weird and I fell back for one of the jumps.
I have lots more to say in the slide.
We didn't have many photos so I just used what we had.
So here it is...

That was the slide.
I hope you liked it.
Feel free to comment what you
think about our athletics day.
Have you had athletics day?
If yes what was your favourite?
Until next time...

Ocean

Hi!
Happy halloween eve!!!!!
This week for my home learning blog
I chose to do this activity...

So I was looking at what kind of poems I could do and I saw a haiku poem.
A haiku poem is make up of:
{Title}
{5 syllables}
{7 syllables}
{5 syllables}
And that's it.
So here is my work...

That was it.
I hope you liked it.
Feel free to comment on what I could improve
on for my next home learning blog.
Try writing your own poem.
It doesn't have to be a haiku.
Do you like poems?
Until next time...

Make a biteable/animation of your favourite tv show/movie.
I chose to make a biteable of my favourite tv show.
I really like the tv series of this book but I haven't read the books.
What is your favourite Tv show/movie?
Here is the biteable.

That was the biteable.
I hope you liked it.
Feel free to comment on how I could improve
for my next blog and don't forget to answer the questions.
Have you seen/read the series of unfortunate events?
If yes, who is your favourite character?
Mine would be sunny.
Until next time...

Art or Vandalism?

Hi!
This week for my blog post I chose to post my Street Art inquiry.
I chose to post this because I finished last week
and because I wanted to share it with you.
For street art we looked at so many different
kinds of art that can be found around on the streets.
I found that lots of the art has lots of detail
or not very much but they still turn out amazing.
Here is my finished slide of street art...

That was the slide.
It was all set out by the teachers to show what street art is.
If you want you can spend your time watching the videos.
Feel free to comment on my work and on my
own street art that is on the last slide.
I think that my title page also looks good that is on slide 5.
I didn't have many ideas but it still looks good.
I hope you enjoyed my blog post.
Until next time...

New school uniform?

Hi!
This week is the first week of term 4.
You know what that means.
Another home learning blog.
This time the students chose the activities
and I voted for this one so I thought I would do it.
What is the activity? You may be asking.
Well here it is...

That's what I had to do.
I did all of this, I chose to keep the same
colors so it is still sort of the same.
The skirt took a long time to make
for me because of the pattern.
Here is the new school uniform idea...

That was my work.
I hope you liked it.
Feel free to comment on how I could improve
my work and how I could improve the
presentation for my next home learning blog.
How was your holidays?
Were you excited to come back to school?
Until next time...
Bye!
