Summer Learning Journy Prep, Activity.

Today we are doing a Summer Learning Journy Prep activity. We are doing this activity on Monday. For this activity we had to choose a country out of ten and make a post using two facts and why I want to visit it, I chose Malaysia. We also had to awnser some questions that I put in 2-6. 1. Did you know that one of their national icons is a tiger. 2. Did you know that in Malaysia there are around 27 million people. 3. The languages that are most spoken in Malaysia are Bahasa Malaysia and some of the people speak English. 4. Kuala Lumpur is located in the southern part of Malaysia. 5. In janury the weather in Kuala Lumper is 27°C. 6. he name of Malaysia's capital city is Kuala Lumpur. I would want to visit it because it is warm and beacuase there is a tiger as one of the national icons. Tigers are my favorite animals.

These are the links of where I got the facts from.

It is now Wedensday and we are doing the second part of the post. For this one we had to watch two air new zealand videos and choose which one I like more. The choices were either Men in black safety video or the worlds coolest safety video. The one I like better is the Men in black safety video. Also for this post we had to choose 3 safety tips. 1. If you need air get the air thing from above, put the strap over your head, put the cup like part over your mouth and nose then breath. 2. If a problem is going to take place and there is a seat in front of you, put your head onto the seat and put your feet flat on the floor and hold them.  3. If you have to abandon the aircraft grab the packet that is under your seat, pull back the seal and take the life jacket out, put it over your head and look for the closest exit, once you are out of the aircraft inflat your life jacket and you will be safe.

It is still Wednesday and I am on the third activity. For this activity I have to find out the weather for the capital city and make a list on what I have to pack. The weather would be from 24C - 32C. This is what I have to pack: T-shirts, Long pants, Shorts, Scocks, Togs, Towels, Goggles, Jackets, Shoes, Tooth brush, Tooth paste, Underwear, Books, Chromebook, Chromebook Charger, Headphones, Chromebook case, I-pad, I-pad charger. That would probaly be all I would need.

Thank you for looking at my blog and feel free to check back on my blog to see more posts.

Pet Day, The Pet Part

For the time that the pets were at school I walked around with my dog Maggie and with Maddie and her dog Rozie. Maggie was easy to see becuase I made her tail blue and when I was doing the activitys I could see her arriving.

This is us with Rebbecas dog Jimmy

These are the sheep photos, before the sheep was sheared during and after the sheep was sheared. Firstly, they took the sheep out of the pen by draging it on its back. Secondly, they sheared the tummy parts that arn't good for wool. Thirdly, they sheared the rest of the body and then put the sheep back in the pen. I was used to seeing this becuase My dad has sheep and I usally watch him shear them.

My dog is the one on the left and Maddies dog is on the right.
Maggie didn't like having photos taken of her.

This is Bridget's horse Carly, We took our dogs over to the horse area and Maggie really wanted to go in with Carly. When we left the horses Maggie barked. After awhile the horses rode around the main arena, as the teachers called it, and barked at the horses as soon as they came close. Thank you for looking at my blog and feel free to comment on this post. Also do you have any pets?

ANIMAL ABUSE, My Personal Inquiry

This is my personal inquiry that I did in four days so it isn't the best but I still really like it. My Topic is Animal Abuse. I'm not finished so I would like some feed back on what I could change. Thank you for veiwing my blog.

WARNING: SAD PHOTOS BELOW: The photos are of mistreated animals that have been rescued and made better.

What countries have different rules about animal abuse
There are less rules in Asia about animal abuse. China's new law is about basic legal protection for wildlife, companion animals, animals in labs, animals who are transported, animals used for entertainment, and animals slaughtered for food, but the first draft was vague in many spots. Animal experiments and testing cosmetics on animals, is legal in South Africa. South Africa does not keep statistics on the number of animals used in research. Did you know that there was A golden retriever named Cola, Cola attacked several people who passed her, after being left tied up by the roadside. since they couldn’t  find Cola’s owner, a police officer beat the dog to death.

Physical abuse includes  injuries or causing unnecessary pain, including the wrong methods of training.  Emotional abuse includes repeated mental violence including withholding social interactions. Neglect is the failure to provide good levels of food, water, shelter, and vet care to animals causing poor physical condition. Some animals are thrown from high places causing injury or even death. Some animals are thrown and they land on their heads. They can be starved. They can be dehydrated. They can be forced to be outside in the cold. They can be left on the streets. They can be attacked by tennis rackets. They can be kicked. They can be punched

Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Approximately 3.3 million are dogs. Approximately 3.2 million are cats.

According to the american SPCA a animal is abused every 10 seconds. In a week they took 41 cats and 1 dog. Most abuse and neglect is not on purpose and is done by people who don’t care about the proper way to care for a pet.

Hooked on books week

This week it is hooked on books week. So far we have read 3 books called Liars, Laugh your head off 4 ever and today it was a goldfish boy. Liars was a murder mystery type book, Laugh your head off 4 ever was lots of funny stories and a goldfish boy is a story about someone who sees the world from his window.

For each of the books we had lots of activities and questions to awnser and these are my slides filled with what I did.

This one I didn't have enough time to finish the animation becuase we only had part of a day left.

Some of the questions are unawnsered becuase we didn't read enough of the book to awnser them.

I hope you like my blog and the slides of my work and please tell me how I can improve my post. Thank you for looking at my blog.

Wearable Arts

This term we have been doing wearable arts every Tuesday morning. I am in a group with Maddie and Bridget.  We have finally finished the outfit, and all we have to do is upload the video. The video is not uploading so we can't put it on the slide but we have filmed it.
Hopefully by next Tuesday it will be on the slide so you can see the whole outfit and the dance.  I have found that making the T-shirt was hardest becuase of the shape but we eventullay did it and it looks ok. The skirt was being diffucult when it came to painting becuase the black parts splattered everywhere. We ended up cutting the bottem part off so the skirt is shorter then we thought it would be. The umbrella always fell apart but not to much so it was easy to fix. We were going to have a necklace but we hot glued beads to it so now it doesn't streach and it won't work. Please comment on our outfit and how you thing it could be better.

I hope you like it and comment if you think we can improve.

My Sailing Recount

Sailing

It was so fun, you may wonder what was fun well I will tell you. On the 2nd of November, we went Sailing. We went to Lake Rua to do some sailing, I went with the whole class including parents and teachers. We had spilt the day in half, in the morning we set up the boats and did a practise ride, in the afternoon we had as many rides as we could and we took down the boats.

Firstly, We went to school and I forgot my swimming gear, luckly my mum went home to get it and I had enough time to put my togs on underneath my clothes, I was worried. We had to wait for a while to let everyone come in. When it was nearly time to leave we had to check to make sure we had everything and to go to the toilets. When we could finally go on the bus I sat with Amelia and on the other side of us was Shay.

After that, We arrived and put our bags on a tarp, and then we went to sit down on the other tarps. First, The people who worked there introduced themselves. Second, They explained how to put the boat together. We also had to be in groups so I was with Bridget and Shay, I was excited. To make the boat we had to firstly, get all the things to make it. We had to get the mast and sail, also we had to get the rudder and centerboard, we took all of those to one of the boats that we wanted to use. Secondly we had to put in the rutter, we did that by putting the bottom half in place first then we had to line up the top one and then push the rudder down.

Lastly, we had to do the sail. First we put the mast in place, then we attached the other pole to the mast  (I can’t remember what it is called), After that we had to use another pole to hook the top part of the sail and put the other side of the pole into a red rope and then we tight end it so then the sail wouldn’t fall down. The only steps we couldn't do were to push the rutter down into the water and to put the center board down. That was because we could only do it in the water.

Finally, We got to the water. Bridget was first up, Shay pushed down the rudder and I put the center board in, then she was off. When she came back we had to grab the boat and turn it back around, Shay pulled up the rudder and I pulled up the center board. I was next. Shay pushed the rudder down and I pushed the center board back down and I was pushed off. I was going at a steady pace when Corbin suddenly was right in front of me, I was worried that I might fall overboard.

I tried to turn as far away as possible so then we wouldn’t hit each others boats but I was only halfway away from his boat when our two boats collided. My boat was thrown to the side, and I was close to falling but as fast as a leopard, I quickly leaned forward to try not to fall out, and the motor boat appeared by my side steadying my boat. The rest of the ride was easy apart from turning, that was always the hardest for me. When I got out of the boat my knees really hurt, I didn’t know why but it stopped a while after.  Once everyone had finished we went back to eat and play. Bridget, Shay, Amelia and I kicked a ball around while we waited to go back out.

My Second ride was easy and I had no problems. A few people tipped their boats but they weren't me. Once everyone had a second ride we went back and I got changed out of my togs and I changed my shoes and socks. The rest of my clothes were not wet at all though. Then they told us to take out the rudder, center board and mast. We put the rudder and centerboard away then we rolled up the sail around the mast and it was time to leave.

We got in the bus and we got to the gate blocking us from leaving. Guess what, it was locked. They couldn’t get the gate open so we were stuck in the bus for a long time until they finally got it open. We finally started the drive back to school. So overall this was a really fun experience and I would do it again.

This was my recount of sailing. If you feel like I can improve, comment to tell me how.

My E-asttle Recount

This Recount is my E-asttle test, for the end of year tests. I feel like I did well for this and I'm proud of my writing. These are some questions that I will answer.

1. What have I been learning about? I have been learning how to write amazing recounts for the past two weeks. I have learned how to add all the important words to make it more interesting for the reader.

2. What I have found difficult? What I found was difficult was remembering to add in the interesting words to make the reader want to continue reading the recount.

3. How I think I have improved throughout the unit. I think I have improved by adding some more interesting words to make the reader continue reading.

I hope you liked my E-asttle, and please comment if you think I could improve on anything.

Wearable Arts

A while ago I did a post about my work for our WOW work (WOW stands for World Of Wearable arts). I have now done some more on it and we have started making the outfit. So far we have only made the umbrella and we are painting little Christmas ornaments to look like planets so we can put them on our space-themed umbrella. We have also made the hat and we are waiting for the next time we can do it so that Bridget can bring in the top and skirt so we can do more. I don't have any photos because I haven't had a chance to take them and it is messy right now. Feel free to comment and tell me how I can improve.

My Reading work

This week for reading I have done a few more things and I want to show you what I have done so far. I have done the second part of the Story Map.

Next, I completed doing the synonyms activity. Synonyms are different words that mean the exact same thing.

After that, I rewrote the words in a paragraph that I highlighted in green to make the paragraph better.

Lastly, I did the activity on Antonyms. Antonyms are different words that mean the exact opposite of the other word.

That is all I have done so far in two sessions. Feel free to comment, and give me feedback on where I can improve, and what I have done well.

The cart

The Cart

Firstly, dad left me at grandpa’s house, with only a bag with a few things inside to play with.
Grandpa plonked me down on a box and then resumed mowing the lawn. That was the
exact moment I saw something out of the corner of my eye, it was a box, of old family
photos. I stacked lots of boxes on a cart so then I could grab the photos. CRASH,
everything fell including the photos. Then I noticed a picture of a man and a young boy
with the cart standing in front of a tree. The next thing that happened was that grandpa
told me about the escaped monkeys, then he took me on the bright red cart down the
street.

After that, We were walking down the street, when lots and lots of trees sprung up out of
the ground all around us forming a thick forest. It was then that we had to go faster and
faster because there were monkeys were chasing us and they were right on our tail. I was
so scared, I held on tight to the cart then there was a big THUMP. It was Grandpa
jumping into the cart next to me. We rushed through the forest until we fell into the lake.
The cart turned into a boat and We were going down a river at high speed, but we were
ok. We were rushing down the river then my teddy saw a waterfall!

Next, the cart suddenly turned into an airplane and we were high up in the sky.
We were soaring through the sky and I started to relax a bit and enjoyed the ride.
We soared past lots of different shaped clouds. Suddenly, we stopped soaring and we
had to jump because there was no more fuel in the tank. We all jumped, then we had to
pull the cord to make our parachutes go up so then we could float down. Once we got
down we stopped to eat some food and drink some water. I was glad that we got a break
because I was getting tired.

Soon, there was a strike coming from space it was an alien. Quickly, we jumped into our
cart that turned into a rocket! Then before I knew it, we were in space being attacked by
aliens. My job was to shoot them with my gun so then we would be safe. This went on for
a while till all we saw was the biggest alien ship we had ever seen. It was big and was a
range of colors from dark blue to lime green, and it was getting ready to shoot us then…

Lastly, Dad arrived, he quickly snapped us out of our daydream and asked why we were
filthy. Then he saw our cart. I was amazed dad had been on the cart before and had so
many adventures on it before me. It was then time for me to go home. So I guess I was
wrong Grandpa isn’t boring he is amazing and I want to see him again. To sum my
adventure up it was an amazing one, and it might have changed my mind about adults,
only a little bit. After this adventure, I always went to grandpa’s house once a week so
we could have our amazing adventures.

The End

Today we did some writing based on a short movie called taking flight. For the writing, we had to write down what happened in the movie then we had 40 minutes to add lots more detail. I hope you liked my story and w comment on it.

Novel Study

This week we got a book for our Novel Study and I got the book enemy at the gate. So far I really like it and I'm up to chapter 21. I like it because it talks about what has happened in New Zealand and tells a story of someone who might of had an experience with it in their own way. The story is about a boy and his family who live in Wellington. There is this disease called Polio or Infantile Paralysis, eventually, one of his sisters get it and he is trying to outrun Polio and save his family.

The image below is of my author study about the author of the book, Her name is Philippa Werry. This disease has happened two times that I know that the book has told me one was in 1924 and the one they are experiencing is in 1936. I think the title matches the book because its like polio is the enemy and it's just waiting to come in and hurt them all.

The next Image is of the start of the story map that I'm making about the story and I have only gotten halfway through the book so the story map isn't finished yet but it is still really full. The boy in the story has a dream to run in the Olympics like the famous Jack Lovelock that he wants to run like.

Every night he went through a routine of wiggling his fingers and toes ten times the going through all the names of his family five times so then he could try to protect them from polio. I hope you liked my blog post and will look at my future posts. I think that if you like books about someone's story of what happened in the past that would have been made up but it might have happened. I really like the book so far so I hope it will get better.
