Setting Sail

Dear, Friend.

Activity 2: Setting Sail
The first settlers to come to New Zealand must have been really brave! They had to leave their original homes and sail thousands of miles across the ocean on a special boat called a ‘waka’ to reach New Zealand.

Imagine that you were on board one of the wakas. On your blog, write a short letter to a friend telling them about your voyage to New Zealand. In the letter be sure to tell them how you feel about moving to a new country. If it was me, I would have felt really nervous…

that's the activity i'm doing, please read this.

I would be really nervous what if someone was already there
and they attack us when we are going onto the island and if they
don't attack us and let us stay but they dont like me.
I would also be sad because I'm leaving my own house behind
and i would also be leaving a bit of my family behind.

Anyway I hope all goes well for us all on the waka.

Kind Regards, Abby.

  1. Hi again Abby, thanks for writing a letter pretending you are one of the first travellers to New Zealand. Who is your letter to?

I would be worried about getting attacked upon arrival too. It's good that you have identified how you would feel about the journey. I would also be sad to leave my family and loves ones behind. You would be hoping that New Zealand was better!

What do you think you would do as soon as you arrive in New Zealand?

    Thanks, Billy

  2. Good Morning Abby.

My name is Clare and Im part of the Summer Learning Journey. Its really awesome seeing all the amazing learning you are doing. I teach in the AKO HIKO cluster which is up in the north island in Auckland.

I like your letter here and how you have used your thinking skills to imagine you traveling to another country and what it would be like. I like how you said that you would be feeling sad leaving your family behind. Im sure all people feel like that when they move to another country. Do you think the trip in the Waka would have been long?
I can image the Waka would have been small and not flash like some boats today.

Keep up the fantastic Blogging and Im sure I will stop by your blog again soon. Comment below to get more points towards your SLJ.

    Clare
