This week we got a book for our Novel Study and I got the book enemy at the gate. So far I really like it and I'm up to chapter 21. I like it because it talks about what has happened in New Zealand and tells a story of someone who might of had an experience with it in their own way. The story is about a boy and his family who live in Wellington. There is this disease called Polio or Infantile Paralysis, eventually, one of his sisters get it and he is trying to outrun Polio and save his family.
The image below is of my author study about the author of the book, Her name is Philippa Werry. This disease has happened two times that I know that the book has told me one was in 1924 and the one they are experiencing is in 1936. I think the title matches the book because its like polio is the enemy and it's just waiting to come in and hurt them all.
The next Image is of the start of the story map that I'm making about the story and I have only gotten halfway through the book so the story map isn't finished yet but it is still really full. The boy in the story has a dream to run in the Olympics like the famous Jack Lovelock that he wants to run like.
Every night he went through a routine of wiggling his fingers and toes ten times the going through all the names of his family five times so then he could try to protect them from polio. I hope you liked my blog post and will look at my future posts. I think that if you like books about someone's story of what happened in the past that would have been made up but it might have happened. I really like the book so far so I hope it will get better.
