I have a dream...

Hi!
We are having a Yaldhurst speech competition later in the term so we need to get our speeches ready to present.
When Miss Rennell told us we were going to begin our learning on speeches this year I felt nervous for the presenting part and I remembered some of my past speeches.
Before we start learning and creating our speeches we had a task to train our brain.
To set up our mindset for speeches we used the six tools in our past mental toughness toolkit. (Positive thinking, Goal Setting, Attentional Control, Visualisation - The Drawing, Anxiety Control and Self Awareness)
We used google drawings to make a DLO using those things.
Here is my dream for how it will go...

While making this drawing I was thinking about what tips I would need for our speeches.
The hardest part for me during speeches is going to be presenting it since I don't like talking in front of audiences.
The easiest part is going to be writing the speech once I think of a good topic.
I chose these tips for myself because I think that these are important for when I am writing my speech.

Do you have any useful tips for writing speeches?
Have you ever had to write and present a speech?
If yes, what do you think was the hardest or easiest part?

If you are writing a comment on this blog post, here are some helpful sentence starters if you want to use them.
POSITIVE: The interesting part was...
THOUGHTFUL: You brought me back to when...
HELPFUL: To improve, you could...
Don't forget to ask or answer any questions!
Until next time...

What is that voice? It's a comment...

Hi!
Last for the past two Tuesday afternoons we have been learning to make voice recorded comments.
We did this for cybersmart, here is a link to the lesson we used: LINK.
I chose to do the confident section.
For this we had to go through a slide and make a voice recorded comment.
How? Well read this slide to find out how to do it...

That was the slide, I think that it was a bit difficult at the start but once I did it it was really fun and easy.
Also I think that the code is very confusing at first glance but then it is easy once it gets explained.
Was this helpful?
Do you think you could do this?
Will you do one for this post? I'm excited to see.
Until next time...

Resilience...

What is resilience?

Hi!
This week we learnt what resilience is.
Our lesson on it is very easy to remember since our teacher came up and snapped a pen to get the spring inside of it.
The purpose of it was to show that each time you get stretched, you bounce back.
Once the spring bounces back it's a bit longer, which shows that we learn from everything we do.

Here is a DLO I made to explain a bit more about resilience...

That was it, here is the link to the video if you want to learn more about resilience.
The video is mostly explaining about bouncing back if there is a distraction.
I hope you liked it and learnt something new about resilience.
How would you explain resilience? What are some times you need resilience?
Do you agree with the quote? I think it is correct for resilience since you always bounce back.
Thank you for reading/looking at my blog.
Until next time...

Where is the helpful part?

Hi!
For the last two Tuesdays we have been learning about quality blog comments.
First we went to the Uru Mānuka site and went to the smart learner tab and went to lesson one.
Then we followed the steps to get into groups and decided if we were beginners, stepping up or confident with our commenting and blogging.
I was in a group with Mia and Grace in the confident area.
Here are links to their blogs: Mia, Grace.

We learnt about four different things: Learning, Impact, Editing and Layout.
We read about all of those then began improving comments to make them Positive, Thoughtful, Helpful, have a question and a greeting.
We also went through a checklist to make sure we did everything and watched all the videos.

Here is a picture of one of the comments my group improved.

That was one of the four comments we improved.
I think that we also made the new comment also have a helpful section.
I think that this was a fun activity to do since we could go in groups together and learn lots of new things that will be helpful for my blog posts and comments.
I think that this was a good refresher on some things that I might have learnt before but forgot so this was helpful for me to remember.
How often do your comments check all the boxes?
Do you enjoy writing comments on blogs or would you rather write the blogs?
What do you like about writing comments?
Until next time...

DON'T BREAK THE CHAIN!!!!

Hi!
This week we have been learning lots of ways we can achieve goals.
We started off with learning about James Clear and what his central question is.
Using his website we found that his main question is "How can we live better?"
James Clear is an author, but not just any author.
His work is to read and find information then take the
important parts to make easy to read and understand articles.

James Clear suggests four simple things to train your brain and improve your mental toughness:
Start incredibly small - Make the habits you want to master so easy you can't say no.
Improve one thing, by one percent - Do it again tomorrow.
Use the Seinfeld Strategy - Maintain consistency.

Using those links we learnt about all four of those topics.
But I chose to blog about the Seinfeld strategy...

I think that this strategy is helpful since you can see if you are achieving your goal.
Also for a lot of people it might be helpful being able to cross off each day and feel successful.
Would you try this strategy? Do you think it would work? Do you think you could go for a month without breaking the chain?
Until next time...

The final Matariki challenge...

Hi!
I have now finished the 5th and final Matariki activity.
For this we had to do a scavenger hunt on our class website.
All around it were 9 facts that we had to find and write down on a sheet of paper with the questions that we had to find the answers.
Then we had to make a quiz using those questions.
Here's the link to the kahoot I made (hopefully it works): LINK

On the Kahoot I put all the questions and the answers I found.
Here is the sheet of answers I did...

It is a bit blurry, but it is what I found.
I found that this was really fun but it was hard to find the first and fifth answer.
If you want to learn some new things about it I suggest the kahoot because what I learnt was helpful and new.
Do you want to try this? Will you try the Kahoot? Did you know any of this?
Well until next time...
Bye!

Matariki fractions....

Hi!
I have done another Matariki activity, this one was called "Matariki Maths".
For it we did a colour by number star, but instead of just one number it is a fraction.
At the top there is a key that shows simple fractions and their colour.
So we had to simplify the fractions on the star to find out what colour it is.
There was a easy star, a medium star and a hard star.
I did the easy one and the hard one.

Easy fractions key:

Hard fractions key:

I didn't find it too hard once I got the first few fractions done.
Here is the two completed stars that I did:

That was my completed work.
I think that the easier star looks better since there is less boxes so the colours are more vibrant.
Overall I think that this was helpful to learn how to solve any fraction.
But I don't know if I got it right yet but I think I got it mostly right.
For the easy one I just did the colours in order but for the hard one I chose one fraction at a time to solve and colour in.
This is the link to the place I got the stars on.
Do you like fractions? What star do you like better? Would you want to try it?
Until next time...

Marshmallows.... at school?

Hi!
This week is the first week of term 3.
We have done lots of fun things already but I chose to blog about a challenge we did.
It is called the marshmallow challenge where we have to build a tower using:
- 20 hard spaghetti sticks
- 1 marshmallow
- 1 metre of tape
- 1 metre of string
The one thing we had to do was make sure the marshmallow is on top since the top of the marshmallow is how high the tower gets measured.

The purpose of this challenge was to improve teamwork.
I was in a group with Mia, Nikita and Grace.
Together we thought of a plan of how to make sure it's secure and doesn't fall.
Once we had a plan we started building.
Here are some pictures of the process and the final measurement.

Our groups final measurement was 51.5 centimeters.
I think that this was a very fun team challenge to do.
We learnt some new things about towers and how to make it so everyone gets something to do.
Would you try this challenge? How high could you get it? Have you tried it before?
After we did the challenge we saw a video of lots of adults doing it and learnt that really young kids do the best since they do more then one try at it.
Until next time...

Matariki kites....

Hi!
Last term we started doing Matariki work.
I have now finished the third activity called: Matariki kites.
For this activity we had to read this text: LINK
Then answer or do what is in this: LINK
For the questions we had to put them all together in a presentation.
Here is my work...

That was the slide, I hope you liked it.
For the last questions I didn't write them in since they are very long, but the link for the PDF we used has all the questions.
I found that this was very interesting to learn about.
I learnt lots of new things and I found that kites have existed for a very long time.
If you have time try reading the text to find out some other interesting information.
Do you have a kite? Do you want a kite? Did you know any of this?
Until next time...
Bye.

The 9 stars

Hi!
Like I said in my last blog post; this week we are doing Matariki work.
I have just finished doing the second activity called: The nine stars of Matariki.
For this we had some reading to do and a document of all 9 stars and what they mean.
I decorated them and tried to match what it said.
I think that they mostly match, but some of the meanings were similar to the other stars.
I tried to make them all different but it is a bit blurry and doesn't really show the colours very well.
I hope you enjoy the stars, here they are...

There it was, hopefully it is easy enough to see.
Here is the link for the stars we used: LINK
Here is the link for the text we read: (They say the exact same) LINK
What one do you like the most? What would you have done? Would you want to learn about them?
Comment what you think and maybe some feedback on this.
Until next time...
Bye.

The celebration of...

Hi!
This week my class is working on Matariki.
We have a matrix of 5 different activities we have to do.
The first activity is called: The Celebration of Matariki.
For this we had to read a piece of information, fill out a worksheet then make a DLO on 5 things we learnt from the text.
Here it is...

I found some parts of this interesting to learn about from the first text so I'm excited to move onto the next one.
Did you learn anything new? Did you know any of this? What did you find interesting?
I hope you enjoyed this blog post and learnt something new, comment some feedback for the next activities I do if you want.
Here is the story we used (hopefully it works): LINK
Until next time...

An easy way to make... AWESOME graphs.

Hi!
Today for Cybersmart we learnt how to make a graph on Google Sheets.
Firstly we watched this video, here's the link; LINK.
Then we went to our digital sign in doc to get some data for our graphs.
Everyday to sign in there is a different theme, so there is lots of different information to use.
I chose to use today's information on Rimu's best subject.
I also decided to do a 'how to' blog post on how to do it.
Here it is...

I hope you liked it or learnt something new.
If you have spare time give it a go and try to make your own graph.
Did you know this?
What's your best subject?
How do you normally do graphs?
I usually just make it myself on the spreadsheet or slides, using a table.
I think that this way is a lot more efficient to make awesome graphs.
After looking around the graph settings there are lots of things you can to to customize your posts.
Until next time...

House... Bubble art?

Hi!
This week we have been doing House Bubble Art.
What is that?
Well at our school we have houses/teams/groups.
We call them houses, there are 4.
Hillary, Edgar, Rutherford & Ormsby.
Blue, Green, Red & Yellow.
So we made House bubble art, bubbles using our house colours.
I am in Rutherford, red, so here is the process and my final product of my Bubble art.

That was my art, I hope you enjoyed the slide.
As you saw, I made lots of mini ones to fill in the gaps.
Once everyone in the school is done their own they will be put together to make a big picture.
Did you enjoy the slide? Would you want to do this? What one of my many did you like best?
If you have any questions comment them and I will try and reply.
Until next time...

How to...

Hi!
This week I wanted to post a how to slide.
So I thought for a bit and decided how to: use the draw tools to make a picture.
The draw tools are very helpful if you want to make something for a front cover. Or just a picture to go with some text.
I hope you learn something new about this.
So here it is...

Comment if you think I could change something about this to make it easier to understand.
Should I do some more of these? If yes then what tools should I explain how to use? Did you know this already?

If you are finding it hard to make a good picture. You can also trace other pictures, but remember to change it and make it your own. 👍

My favourite one would be curve then polyline, then scribble. What would yours be?
Good luck if you want to try using these.
Overall I think that these tools are very helpful.
Until next time...

Get in quick, get out quicker...

Hi!
This week we have been doing narrative writing.
With our narrative writing we have 25 different prompts to choose from.
Since we have been doing writing I decided to
share the first two paragraphs of the story that I wrote on Tuesday.
The prompt for that story was:

I was very excited to write about this since it gave me an opportunity to write a story that relates to some books I like to read.
So I hope you enjoy the introduction of my story.

That was the introduction for the story.
If you want to you can comment some feedback for that
first part of the story and I will try to improve it.
Also comment if you want me to blog some more narrative
introductions or a different part of the stories.
Whats your favourite kind of story?
Did you like this story?
Do you want to read more?
Until next time...

Just a little seed...

Hi!
This week we are finally back at school.
Today the teachers planted a 'seed' of knowledge of homophones.
Homophones are words that sound the same.
So I decided to do three words that sound the same but have a completely different meaning.
Their, there and they're.
If you already know the difference then this can just be a reminder.
Here's the poster I made:

That was the poster I made, I hope you liked it.
If you didn't know what the differences were then I hope this helped.
If you did then hopefully this was a good reminder.
I already knew the differences between them but I think that sometimes I still used the wrong one and I also learnt what homophones are.
Did you know this? Did you learn anything new? Can you think of different homophones?
Comment what you think about this.
Until next time...

A little, BIG robin...

Hi!
This week for my blog post I chose to blog about one of my writing activities.
For this we just watched a video, answered some questions
then do either a long write or a fun activity.
For that one I chose a video about the Chatham Islands.
I answered the questions then chose to do the activity.
The activity was a bit different from what I did since I have no paint.
But here is the finished picture...

That was it, I hope you liked it.
So the activity was to paint the background to be like the bush.
Then use native plants and paint them to make prints on the paper.
Then draw and cut out a robin and paint it black.
Since I had no paint I just drew everything but I think it is really close to what we had to do.
Until next time...

Something new?

Hi!
Today I just chose to do a fun blog post to do another bloggers word find.
This took about 20 minutes to complete since some of the words were very hard to find.
But I think it was really fun to do.
So here is the completed word find...

As you can see this was made by Aimee at Grey Main School.
Here is the link to her blog post: LINK
Do you like word finds?
Have you ever made one?
What is your strategy to find the words?
I hope you enjoyed this quick post and are inspired
to do your own or find your own word find..
Until next time...

Calm before the war...

Hi!
So this week and next week our writing tasks are based of Anzac day.
There are lots of activities and each day you get to choose one.
So there are 5 different categories and we have to at least do one from each.
Yesterday as my first activity I chose this one to do with Grace:

So we chose to read the text about underground soldiers and make a scene about that.
Here are a few photos I took of it:

So in this Grace and I showed where we think the soldiers
would be sleeping and what the tunnels would look like.
In the top left photo it shows where they sleep.
In the top right photo it shows the start of one of the tunnels.
In the bottom left it shows the very top of their hiding spot, looking out onto no mans land.
Then in the bottom right it is just a poppy.
I got the reading from here: LINK

Comment what you think about this and if you did anything for anzac day.
Did you make anything? Or did you do anything for it?
(There is a texture pack on so that's why it looks different.)
Until next time...
Bye!

France...

Hi!
This week for my blog post I decided to post some facts that
some of my friends and I have been finding and put on this slide.
The facts have been about different Europe countries
so I decided to just post the first one that is France.
We have all been working on this together and it also counts as one of our can dos.
The slide I did was slide two about Frances neighbours and some spots next to france
Well here is the slide, I hope you enjoy it.

That was the slide, hopefully you learnt something new.
On slide 3 in the corner are links to the sources of the pictures.
What of these did you already know?
Have you visited France?
Would you like to visit France?
I think that this slide is fun to do so then I can learn new things
about different countries and then share those things with other people.
Until next time...
Bye!
